The XB-300 is an amplifier expansion card that greatly expands the bladeRF’s RF performance. The amplifier card features an LNA and diversity combiner for RX, and a Power Amplifier, TRX switch, and high-accuracy ADC for measuring output power for TX.

The Low Noise Amplifier (TSS-53LNB+) has a wide bandwidth of 4.5 GHz, from 500 MHz to 5 GHz. The typical gain of the LNA ranges from 20 to 22 dB, and the observable maximum Noise Figure of the LNA is 1.5 dB. The LNA is suitable for use in the 900 MHz / 2.4 GHz ISM bands, cellular bands, ADS-B reception, and everything else between 500 MHz and 5 GHz. Using the 2:1 combiner (SCN-2-27+), the XB-300 can be configured to combine signals from the RX ANT port, and either the RX ANT2 or the TRX port. This is advantageous for projects requiring antenna diversity.

The Power Amplifier (SE2605L) provides 33 dB* of gain in the 2.4 GHz ISM band. The maximum output power before the 1 dB compression point is +31 dBm*. The PA is a linear amplifier, so a dedicated power supply is recommended when operating in the upper range of amplification. The PA features an analog power out pin that is sensed using a dedicated MAX11664AUB+ ADC.

*The maximum attainable TX amplification with the bladeRF and XB-300 is approximately +24 dBm. This is achieved using a continuous waveform at a center frequency of 2.45 GHz with the bladeRF TXVGA1 and TXVGA2 set to maximum.
