Hi there,

You are correct, the PPA is designed for the 14.04 LTS release and later. This is because 14.04 was the latest available at the time the PPA was created.

You can build the host software from source following these instructions on the wiki.

With that said, I would highly encourage you to upgrade to a much newer distro version, so that you can benefit from the fixes and improvements in the kernel (for some USB 3.0 controllers) and in libusb. For this reason, we generally recommended the latest and greatest distro version.

If you run into issues on 12.04, I would ask that you test out a later version using a live image, such as the GNU Radio Live Image before reporting problems.

Best regards,
Jon

Hi there,

I'm glad to hear you were able to build and install the bladeRF software. Using the "Verifying Basic Device Operation" wiki page was a good idea.

Unfortunately, I'm not too knowledgeable with the OpenBTS codebase. Furthermore, your problem description of the mobile station not being able to see the network is a bit nebulous. I would advise you to narrow this down by reviewing logs to see if devices are being rejected.

If you are not locked to OpenBTS, note that YateBTS (wiki), is actively supporting the bladeRF in their mainline code. If you are able to try their software, I think you might be able to find some support in the Yate forums or on their IRC channel.

You can also ask around in the #bladeRF channel on Freenode, but I suspect you might have better luck with Yate.

Best regards,
Jon
